One of the major responsibilities a university is to train young faculty and students to conduct high-quality research. It is a well-established fact that universities on the forefront of research and the dissemination of research results, rank higher as compared to those, which lag in these activities. Therefore, MPhil and PhD Programs are among the high-priority activities of University of Karachi. In addition to courses in their respective disciplines, MPhil and PhD students are required to complete courses, which train them in techniques and issues in conducting research. One such course, “Research Methodology II”, offered by Office of Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Karachi, started on Tuesday, February 3, 2009.    More  than  fifty

More than 50 students attended the introductory session. Professor Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Dean, Faculty of Science, in her opening remarks, welcomed the participants. Professor Dr. Syed Arif Kamal of Department of Mathematics, who is the course coördinator, explained course policies and took input of participants regarding their expectations. The participants were most interested in learning scientific   communication   and publishing a paper as well as techniques of data analysis. Professor Kamal mentioned that experts from different institutions should be invited to lecture on specialized topics. This course is meant for MPhil/PhD students of 2006 and 2007 sessions.
