Aims and Objectives
Aims and objectives of the NGDS Workshops may be summarized as:

a)

To appraise teachers about state-of-the-art contents and pedagogical techniques in mathematics

b)

To develop a state-of-mind in teachers, so that they are constantly seeking new information through the print and the electronic media, as well as educating themselves through discussions and interaction with working scientists

c)

To motivate teachers to prepare effective lectures, demonstrations and activities in mathematics using the latest AV- and IT-tools available

d)

To train teachers to develop and to conduct quizzes, tests and examinations in mathematics

e)

To sharpen their problem-formulating and problem-solving skills in mathematics

f)

To involve them in various activities aimed at creating mathematics awareness in our society

g)

To provide guidance for chalking out a program of lifelong learning for self in mathematics

h)

To assist them in curriculum, textbook and teaching-software development in the subject of mathematics

Number of Participants
2 to 5 teachers may be nominated by an institution to participate in the workshops, according to be following criteria:

a)

The NGDS Institutions, Army Public School, ‘O’ Levels, Karachi, Bahria College, MT Khan Road, Karachi, Fazaia (PAF) Degree College, Base 'Faisal', Karachi, may nominate as many as FIVE teachers.

b)

Participating Institutions (which are not NGDS Institutions) may nominate THREE teachers.

c)

Rest may nominate a maximum of TWO teachers.

Nomination Procedures
Individual teachers may NOT apply for these workshops. Institutions willing to participate may send a letter of request on institutional letterhead to
Professor Dr. Syed Arif Kamal, Master Trainer, The NGDS Workshops, Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Karachi, Karachi 75270. The following information is required:

a)

Name of the workshop, for which nomination is sent

b)

Name, paper mail address (mailing address), telephone and fax numbers of the institution

c)

Official website and e-mail address of the institution, if available

d)

Date of establishment of the institution

e)

Name of the principal/the head teacher

f)

Name of head of the science department

g)

Affiliation of the institution (the Aga Khan Board, IB, Karachi Board, University of cambridge, University of London, etc.)

h)

One‑page vita of each teacher nominated

i)

One passport-size photograph of each teacher nominated

Name of the teacher should be written in BLOCK LETTERS on the back of each photograph.

Photograph must be affixed to vita on the upper right-hand corner.

All information should be provided in the order given above. Advance copy of nominations may be sent by e-mail. However, a formal submission on institutional letterhead is ESSENTIAL for completing the nomination procedures
